In 2016 the rail trail was expanded a further 15kms, with a new path from Wulkuraka to Wanora. Making it possible to begin a cycle tour from the outskirts of the Ipswich suburban rail line. Work also commenced in 2016, on the missing 30km link between Toogoolawah to Moore. When complete the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail will be Australia's longest continuous rail trail at 161km, overtaking the Great Victorian Rail Trail which spans 134km.
Further expansion plans are being promoted. The ambitious 350km Great Queensland Rail Trail Project seeks to extend the BVRT to Hervey Bay on the coast. Utilising quiet lanes and roads to link the BVRT at Yarraman, to Kingaroy. Where it will pick up the Hervey Bay Rail Trail via Theebine (and the magnificent Miva historic wooden bridge across the Mary River) to Maryborough and Hervey Bay.

At HoneyDale we are lucky enough to have the BVRT passing our back fence! We are looking forward to seeing the expansion plans come to fruition.
